La flor de loto es considerada por muchos como una de las flores más hermosas en el terreno acuático, algunas culturas incluso le dan el calificativo de “planta sagrada”. Debido a su belleza suelen aparecer frecuentemente como decoraciones en diversas piezas de arte asiáticas, región de donde es originaria
La flor de loto tiene varios nombres que varían según la región en donde se localice, sin embargo sólo uno es su nombre científico: Nelumbo nucifera. Se trata de una planta ornamental de pétalos muy grandes que suelen descansar sobre la superficie del agua, dando un toque decorativo muy agradable.
Las hay de diversos colores, aunque las más comunes son las blancas y rosadas. Sus hojas suelen ser bastante más grandes de la propia flor, de superficie plana y de un color verde intenso que ayudan a evitar el crecimiento de algas a su alrededor.
Consejos para su cuidado.
Las flores de loto necesitan de aguas tranquilas para poder desarrollarse en plenitud, en su hábitat natural suelen crecer en lagos y estanques, por lo tanto hay que procurarles un entorno adecuado con aguas pasibles de no menos de 70 centímetros de alto.
Cuidarlas de los caracoles será también una tarea importante ya que suelen contagiarse mucho de estos animalitos.
Habrá que proporcionarles también una buena fuente de luz solar, si se puede colocarlas directamente al sol, mejor. Respecto al invierno, son resistentes a las bajas temperaturas, pero habrá que cuidar que no se congele el agua del estanque ya que podrían debilitarse y en el peor de los casos, morir.
